fairy queen

The sun is just setting…

I’m modelling two fairy crowns assembled spontaneously by me and my sister Dezzy B last week from materials I collected in preparation for that time I didn’t get married in 2019. Check out Dezzy’s other creations on Etsy

This grumpy fairy of the glade is working on her most unimpressed look for when she eventually becomes crowned king of the woods. The day she finds out that’s never actually going to happen, ‘unimpressed’ will seem like a picnic in the park…

She’s the sun’s captive. She captures the sun’s light in her robes by day, and so he keeps her warm by night. She is in his orbit and he is glowing under her skin.

Fairy queen’s bridesmaid…

How can I love when I’m afraid to fall?

One step closer…

Time stands still
I will be brave

Time has brought your heart to me, and time will take it away…

let’s bring summer with us

A simple, spontaneous street shoot…

I said let’s go out and shoot some summer street fashion, so we did! I knew I needed to absorb some of September’s last rays to tide me over into the autumn. The dappled sunlight beneath the trees was dazzling and delightful.

As always, you can find a huge range of my most recent work on Patreon where I share things in greater quantities and more intimate glimpses into my creative life.

merprincess on land

I didn’t have a specific concept for this shoot, but I’ve been having mermaid fantasies swimming around in my head lately, and here felt delicately dressed up like the mermaid-turned-human who’s been brought to the palace to be a human princess. On the other hand I can see that I’m giving off maturer, witchier vibes than the ingénue and suspect I might really be the sea witch decoy…

From a recent photoshoot by Gerard, styled and edited by me.

I’m very happy with this green/aquamarine/cerulean/teal dress I bought just a few days before. The day after this garden shoot, I whisked us off to the seaside to see how the dress would fare with the billowing British winds of Broadstairs.

September 2020.

It probably sounds obvious, but I guess I’d say that focusing on creating your own style is really important, and making work that people will recognize as yours. I think that with the amount of incredible art out there, combined with social media, it’s easy for young illustrators and artists to almost see too much, and end up feeling overwhelmed and confused about what they want to achieve with their own work. I find that sometimes it helps to stay away from the Internet, and focus on why you love making art in the first place.
